Network Days III Begin!

Brookwood is hosting our third Network Days program today and tomorrow, with about 70 participants from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida and Mexico City, Mexico in attendance!

This outreach program allows us to reach others across the nation and world to share our best practices with those looking to create or improve upon their own program.  In the process, Brookwood also benefits from the exchange of ideas and practices.

Brookwood's Executive Director, Vivian Shudde, addresses the Network Days III                                   attendees in the Chapel as they begin their Tour of Brookwood.
Today's attendees will be touring the grounds, then working in the shops with the citizens.  After work, many have chosen to eat dinner in one of the homes and attend the evening basketball practice as well.

Tomorrow's attendees will be attending seminars about various aspects of Brookwood, such as "Spirituality and Persons with Special Needs" and "Community Health and Wellness."

Join us for "Woven Bowl Wednesdays" in the Clay Shop...

On February 5th, Brookwood Artist Amy, Work Program Teachers Warren and Leticia, and Production Manager Peggy helped make woven bowls.  Below are some pictures from that day...

Thomas works the extruder, making coils for the woven bowls.

Brookwood artist Amy helps twist the coils.

Diane also twists the coils for the edges of the woven bowl.

From left:  Richard, Christine and Donald shape the woven bowls.

Clay Shop teacher Katie assists Christine with her woven bowl.

Clay Shop teacher Sterling works with Diane on her heart-shaped woven bowl.

 Close-up of Diane's bowl.

Laura creates a woven bowl in the mold shape with teacher Sterling.

Clay Shop teacher Kelly watches as Monica "scores" the coils to help them join together.

Production Manager Peggy displays her first woven bowl!

Richard works with teacher Katie on his bowl.

We have quite the assembly line on "Woven Bowl Wednesday!"

It really helps to have extra people help on "Woven Bowl Wednesdays" because our woven bowls are very popular!  They are great for keeping bread or rolls warm without becoming soggy, and may be placed in the oven on warm.

On the day these pictures were taken, we set a new record of creating 27 woven bowls!  Then this past Wednesday, we broke that record, making 31 woven bowls!!  WOW!!!

The Clay Shop welcomes additional help on "Woven Bowl Day".  Please contact Peggy at Peggyh@brookwoodcommunity.org or at 281-375-2134 or Ceramics Teacher April at Ceramics@brookwoodcommunity.org or at 281-375-2131 if you are interested in helping our citizens create these wonderful bowls.

GREAT WORK EVERYONE!
