Dramatic Weather over Brookwood Today!

Brookwood had some beautiful rain clouds this morning, 

followed by a glorious rainbow...

 

We didn't get much rain out of this in the morning, but had a nice downpour this afternoon!

HLSR visits Brookwood...

Thank you to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) for all of your support of Brookwood!  On Thursday of this week, the HLSR Poultry & Executive Committees came to Brookwood to donate LOTS of frozen chickens for our citizens to enjoy and to learn more about Brookwood while celebrating with a fried Chicken lunch!  Everyone said the chicken was delicious.

Our Poinsettias have been Planted!

Over the past two weeks, the Brookwood citizens, staff & volunteers have planted around 46,500 poinsettias, to be sold for the upcoming Christmas season.  Here they are, celebrating the end of poinsettia planting for this year!

Great job everyone and thanks to all the volunteers who helped with this and help at Brookwood every day!

A Look into Network Days 5...

Around 60 people joined the Brookwood staff and guest speakers to learn from 

and network with Brookwood staff and their non-profit peers.  Here is a glimpse into their days...

Vivian Shudde greets Network Days attendees.

 Brookwood staff members participated alongside attendees in various programs, 

including "Round Table Luncheons."

The Brookwood Handbell Choir played for attendees at a breakfast in the Cafe.

Joe Mazzu led a seminar in the Worship Center.

Citizen Bill surprised us all by leading everyone in the 

Beatles' song, "All You Need is Love."

Watch KTRK, Chanel 13 today at 4 p.m.!

KTRK, Chanel 13, will be airing a short story shot at Brookwood this morning, at 4 p.m. TODAY (Friday, August 22, 2014)!

 

The piece highlights a new enterprise, called Aspire Accessories, that is joining the Brookwood family in leatherwork.  Today was actually their first day to work at Brookwood, using the former Finishing Shop as their work space.

Meet Nolan, The Jam Man...

The next time you are in our Gift Shop, check out the Jams called "Sweet Heat," made by

Brookwood citizen Nolan and his family.  Each jam has some of that special Texas heat in it!

New Safe Step Spas Donated to Brookwood...

If you visit the swimming pool at Brookwood, you will notice a couple of new additions there...Through a program called "Safe Step Cares," under the direction of Derek Farley, Brookwood has been awarded 3 Safe Step Bathtubs with therapeutic jets.  Two of these new spa units have been installed in the pool area, where all citizens can have access to their benefits, and the additional unit has been installed in the Kilroy home on campus.  These units are unique in that they are tall and open with a door for entry and exit, and allow the lucky person in them to sit on a comfortable raised seat while enjoying the relaxing effects of the heat and jets.



Dwight enjoys the therapeutic jets in the new Safe Step Bathtub/Spa by the pool.
