Meet April Watkins, Brookwood Ceramics Teacher...

April Watkins has been working at Brookwood for a little over 4 years.  She began with us as the manager of Brookwood's Westheimer Gift Shop, but became a Work Program Teacher after she experienced a Volunteer Day in one of the workshops.  "I knew I wanted to work with the citizens," says April.  "I love their laughter and smiles."

April Watkins is a Brookwood Teacher, working in our Ceramics Workshop.

April lives in Houston and rides the Katy Bus to and from work as a chaperone.  "We have a fun bus ride!" she says.  She has worked in every single workshop at Brookwood as a substitute and has even filled in as a Respite Caregiver at the Kilroy Home!  This busy lady is a full-time student at the Downtown Campus of the University of Houston ("Go Coogs!"), studying Humanities and Art History.  She expects to complete her bachelor's degree in one more year.

April is single and loves animals, but says she doesn't have any pets right now since she is never home!  In her "spare time," she loves to go hiking at the Terry Hershey Park and take weekend trips to Austin.  She was raised in Detroit, where the rest of her family still lives, but came to Houston to be with friends and go to school.  She loves working with the citizens:  "Brookwood is the only place where, when you walk into the room, everyone is excited to see you!  We have so much fun in Ceramics and still manage to get our work done."

Thank you for your hard work, dedication and willingness to lend a hand to all in need, April!
